Бебета от критично застрашения вид Амурски леопард дебютираха пред публика в зоопарк в САЩ, предаде АП.

Двете леопардчета - мъжко и женско, са направили дебюта си пред посетителите на зоопарка "Розамонд Гифорд" в Сиракюз, щата Ню Йорк.

Бебетата, които все още нямат имена, са се появили на бял свят на 19 юни. Родителите им са Триа и Рафърти. От зоопарка планират да организират вот за избор на имена на леопардчетата.

We’re really excited to share the news from Rosamond Gifford Zoo in Syracuse, USA of the birth of two Amur leopard cubs back in June. This news is especially poignant to us here at The Big Cat Sanctuary, as these cubs are the great grandchildren of our very own Amur leopards, Xizi and Hogar! These cubs were born as part of the Species Survival Plan, the American equivalent of the European Endangered Species Programme which we at the Sanctuary are extremely proud to be a part of. As the most critically endangered big cat in the world, there are now only approximately 100 Amur leopards left in the wild. Global programmes such as these provide a vital purpose in ensuring that there is genetic diversity still available for this species, so that if circumstances require it, we may be able to reintroduce the species to the wild. Амурският леопард е критично застрашен вид. Смята се, че в естествената им среда - отдалечените източни части на Русия, живеят 84 екземпляра. През 2012 г. броят им е бил едва 30.

Представителите на вида, живеещи под грижата на човека, са около 250.
