73 години любов: кралица Елизабет и принц Филип отбелязаха годишнина с мил кадър и изненада от правнуците си

На 20 ноември тази година се навършват 73 години от женитбата на най-стабилната двойка на Англия - кралица Елизабет и принц Филип.

Те отбелязаха празника със снимка, разпространена от Бъкингамския дворец по повод годишнината. На кадъра кралицата седи до съпруга си, докато и двамата се възхищават на очарователна картичка, създадена от правнуците им принц Джордж, принцеса Шарлот и принц Луи. Освен с нея, кралската двойка е заобиколена от други картички и писма, изпратени от доброжелатели в чест на годишнината им.

Yesterday marked 72 years since Buckingham Palace announced Princess Elizabeth's engagement to Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten. The distant cousins met for the very first time when they each attended the wedding of Philip’s cousin Princess Marina and Elizabeth’s uncle, Prince George, Duke of Kent in 1934. At that time, Prince Philip was 13 and Princess Elizabeth was only 8. Their first official meeting though was in July 1939. Elizabeth was visiting the Royal Naval College in Dartmouth, Devon with her parents and sister, and Philip happened to be their sole tour-guide. Marion Crawford, Elizabeth’s governess, said that The Princess was absolutely smitten with Philip as he entertained her on a tennis court by jumping over the nets. She added that The Princess "never took her eyes off him the whole time." They saw each other again several more times after that and began writing one another letters over the years. In 1946, Philip asked King George VI for his daughter’s hand in marriage. The King agreed on one condition – that the formal announcement of the engagement was delayed until Elizabeth's 21st birthday the following April. According to reports, both King George and Queen Elizabeth were reluctant to approve the marriage out of fear that their daughter was too young. On the big day, 8th July 1947, when Philip asked Elizabeth for her hand, the ring was too big to fit on her finger. Philip proposed to Elizabeth with a 3-carat round diamond ring consisting of a center stone flanked by 10 smaller pave diamonds. The diamonds were taken from a tiara that belonged to his mother, Princess Alice of Battenberg. It was resized in less than two days so The Princess could wear it to the Buckingham Palace Garden Party where the couple formally announced the engagement to the press. On 15th August 1947, Elizabeth and Philip were joined by King George, Queen Elizabeth and Princess Margaret for a pre-wedding photoshoot in the State Rooms at Buckingham Palace. The night before the wedding, King George conferred upon Philp the titles of Duke of Edinburgh, Earl of Merioneth and Baron Greenwich.The couple got married on 20th November that same year at Westminster Abbey.
